We are redoing our backyard. I am excited as much as I am questioning our sanity. Our backyard had a pretty decent slope, so we are having a few rockwalls put in. This will make our backyard much prettier and will be better for everyday use, especially if we ever have kids. So, since we don't have kids now, we figured it's probably the best time to rip up all the grass that we hydroseeded a couple years ago and redo everything. I wish we had thought of this earlier!
But either way, the dogs love the dirt and I am trying desperately to keep it out of the house. Moose, the Great Dane, especially loves the dirt and likes to take mouthfuls and eat it. He seriously walks around the back yard grazing on dirt and clumps of grass and snow if there's any out there! So the other night I let them out before I went to bed. Moose came in and wouldn't take his treat that he always looks forward too. I offered it again and he dodged away from me. I opened up his mouth to find a clump of dirt he snuck in the house! He would rather eat dirt than a treat!
Since the fence is down, we have to watch the dogs more closely outside, to make sure they don't go exploring. Moose is a lot like Scooby-Do and although he's very curious and likes to explore, he's the biggest chicken and is afraid of everything. So I went outside with the dogs, in the mud, and Moose starts growling and barking at something. I didn't know what he was barking at and I looked at our other dog, Cash, and it didn't look like he knew what the problem was either! Moose was looking down and stealthily began approaching the sewer drain that had been cut and had a rock sitting on top of it. As he approached it, he got scared, jumped, and ran away, only to turn around and try to stealthily approach the rock again. He did this about four times before he got up enough courage to stand over the rock and smell it. So he smelled the rock, realized it was a rock and turned around and ran off and attacked Cash, as if he was pretending that he was never afraid of a rock! I only wish I had been recording it, it was way more funny in real life than I could possible explain it!
